Roller Coaster

“Simon answered, ‘Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” Luke 5:5

Lately I’ve hit a dry spell. I’m grateful to be working, but it takes all of me and more to go to one of my two jobs. I’ve had to submit to God because this is where he has me and I got pretty good at the submit thing. As a reward, I’ve been asked to work there even more. It is a constant struggle against dread, fear, anxiety and sadness.

I’ve hit a dry spell with Jesus also. He has taken away, somewhat, how he communicates to me and through me. It’s been hard, but I feel as though he is paving new paths in my communication with Him. His Word is going deeper.

I was thinking about this dry spell as I read Luke 5:5. It was highlighted to me that Simon went from catching absolutely nothing worthy of keeping to filling two boats full. What a roller coaster! I felt God’s still small voice speak to me. He said, “You love a good coaster.”

You know I do. I LOVE roller coasters. They are my favorite thing. Going down theĀ first hill is the best feeling in the world. So why should it surprise me or make me feel anxious that I’m going through this dry spell and not catching any fish? In reality I should be feeling giddy. I should be looking expectantly towards God, waiting for that rush of the Spirit when he comes whooshing back into my life in a breathless way.

I cannot wait to see what God has for me next. I’m in the dry season, so the deluge of the Spirit is coming!

All of you who are dry and weary, look up, hold out your hands and just feel it coming. The refreshing wind is blowing. Can you feel SpiritĀ rustling your hair and blowing across the sweat of your brow? Can you feel the spring in your spirit welling up and overflowing?

The rains are coming! Whoo Hoo!
